thirty-one

Yesterday was my Birthday.  And my one rule is that on my Birthday, I get to do whatever I want and I don't have to do anything I don't want.  (Can you tell I don't have kids yet?)

So this is how I spent this year's July 16th:

It began way too early in the morning because I didn't go to bed until well after 1am.  I was busily working on a photobook from the previous weekend (see post below).  So that meant I didn't get up as early as I'd hoped.  Oh well.  A quick morning run, followed by an hour of checking email, etc.  And because Facebook is so nice to remind everyone that it's my Birthday, I had many people to thank.  I ran to the store to get the chocolate necessary for my Birthday ice cream cake, and then made it.  And then wanted it... but I made myself wait.  Instead I opened the cards I received in the mail: one from my aunt and uncle, and one from my Nana which always includes a $10 check.  :)  Every year.  I love her for that.

Then I spent way too long in the shower getting ready for the day.  I have to look good on my Birthday.  I even wore my hair down which hasn't happened since I got this last bad Rachel-esque haircut (think "Friends", circa 1991) that I really don't care for.  Make-up and I was out the door.

I decided to go shopping and bought a few things here and there, but mostly I walked through Pottery Barn and decorated my next house in at least 4 different ways.  I really love this bedspread, but wish I was bold enough to try this... or this.  Then I went to Target where I gratefully spent my Nana's $10 on a new tank top.

I came back to the house and made my favorite dinner of TACOS - but if you know me well, you probably guessed that.  I was nice enough to share them with my in-laws and two neighbor-friends that came over.  But I still ate 7.  They were so good.  Followed, of course, by the aforementioned ice cream cake, complete with a candle on top.  Delicious.  After a phonecall from Jim, we went for an evening swim at the neighbors' pool.

It was a good day.  Next year I'd like to spend it with Jim, but chances are he wouldn't have enjoyed the mall anyway.
