So, as most of you know I'm moving to TX in a few months. El Paso, to be exact. We're still praying though some of the details, but more importantly, I've been praying for my attitude. It think it's working. I'm now seeing this as another Army adventure, and I'm focusing on the little things to look forward to.
Like decorating my next home.
I like to daydream about how to make all of our belongings and furniture look a little bit different and updated. That's one of the pluses of Army life - a new decor every 2 or 3 years.
Lately I've been thinking about paint. And I'm convinced there's nothing more overwhelming than the paint department in Lowe's and their taunting wall o' color. So this time I'm keeping my options simple and sticking with the Pottery Barn paint fan deck. I'm tempted to do this:
Maybe this for the living room. I think the contrast will be great with our dark sage couches.
This is similar to what we had in our last bedroom. I really like it. Warm and cozy.

Jim has said something about an orange office. (I don't think my computer screen does this color justice. Picture it not so much salmon-y, and more pumpkin.)
I'm feeling a little daring when it comes to our dining room. A friend of my at Fort Campbell had this in hers and I've been jonesin' ever since.
Anyone that knows me won't be surprised with this choice. Eventually I will have my red kitchen! Or at least a red front door.
If you know much about painting, or have ever watched Trading Spaces, you'll be concerned that I've picked out all dark colors. That means 2 coats minimum. For that reason we'll call this a wish list and in the meantime, I'll be checking out Pottery Barn's other paints chips for some more reasonable options.
I even recently fell is love with Rita Konig's home on the Domino website (great video here), and most of her walls are white. Hmmm, that sounds a lot easier.

I'm all about dark colors - I love the warmth they add to a room. But I do agree, there is something strangely (for me, who likes color) appealing about a white room. Maybe because it makes your accesories pop!
A tip you may already know. Take that Pottery Barn paint color/card to the Home Depot paint desk and ask for it in Behr paint. It's cheaper and always rated high in Consumer Reports.
Another thought. I had friends use a similar salmon/pumpkin color in their guest room. They decorated with neutral tones and I think perhaps a striped window panel that pulled out the color. It looked really good because it wasn't overkill.
The colors are wonderful and warm and so inviting! I like Megan's tip about looking for the Behr paint color to match.
I must tell you that I have this thing about Texas. As in I really want to go there someday. I even have a cousin who's down there, but I haven't made it yet.
If I get down there while you are there I'll totally meet you for coffee!
p.s. That was me getting cake smashed in my face by my beloved hubby. I don't know about the super cute part, though! But thanks! I'll be smiling all day!
You've seen our house, all the walls are dark except the kitchen. We did it in a kind of tanish mocha. I like to call the color "caucasian" because I swear if I stand against the wall you can't see me anymore. It's like camo for white nudists.
Anyway, dark colors are awesome. Are office is this dark chocolate that I like to call poop. But it's honestly the color of like a melted hershey's bar. dennis loves the dark color because it's not distracting when he's working. He calls the office his bat cave. ;)
I love the colors you've chosen! Will you be posting photos when you get all settled in?
Oh my, I just saw your comment on my post about being drunk at my babysitter's wedding.
Forget coffee...we'll have something a little stronger when I visit TX and see who can laugh louder! LOL!
okay, love that fireplace mantel 'art piece' type thingie.
and your colors are GORgeEOUS.
I have a "design binder" that I stuff all my magazine articles and color combos in for that day when I actually get to decorate a house (we live in a townhouse now)- it's a good thing.
