well, it's not a grubletta

So right here is where a picture of my belly should be. But in the chaos that has been moving and cleaning recently, I seem to have misplaced my camera cord. So my pictures are stuck indefinitely on my camera. They may never be seen again.

But I will share these with you! On Tuesday night we had our ultrasound. If you can get past the creepiness, than he's actually quite cute.

You heard me right, HE.

I would show you the proof, but I always find those pictures a little, well, disturbing. Poor kid. Do we really need to start the embarrassment this early on? We have, like, 18 whole years for that.

And if you can get past the creepy thing, than do I have the picture for you:
As is natural, everyone has started to ask about names. To which I roll my eyes and give one of these three answers:
  1. "When we do pick a name, we won't tell anyone because, among other reasons, then we can change it last minute if we decide to."
  2. "Yes, we've talked about names, but it always starts a fight."
  3. "On the way home from the ultrasound, Jim and I couldn't even agree on a nickname for the embryo."
And since this is a blog and you guys always get the rest of the story, here it is.

To set the scene: Jim and Karen drive home from the ultrasound reminiscing about the last 40 minutes and how we finally got to see this little guy that I've been incubating. It all seems so surreal. Miraculous, even. Then Jim says this:
  • Jim: So I've been thinking about nicknames for the kid and I think we should call him "Jefe". (pronounced: hef-ay)
  • Karen: What?! Where the heck did you get that name?
  • Jim: Well, we live in El Paso, and Jefe is Spanish for Chief.
  • Karen: (blank stare)
  • Jim: What do you think?
  • Karen: I think that sounds kinda stupid. Jefe? Chief? It reminds me of Heifeweisen. (a German beer)
  • Jim: That's even cooler!
  • Karen: Well, I was thinking I'd start calling him Skelator.
  • Jim: (blank stare)
Neither of us won. So for now it's still Grublet and you can often find me standing in front of my refrigerator looking at the ultrasound the nice technician printed out for us. I should say that the picture doesn't do him justice, because when the tech used his thingy-mabob to slather all that jelly around my stomach, I distinctly saw an expression on my little boy's face. And it was sweet. And he was cute. And he didn't look anything like Skelator.

Awwww...a boy!!!! That is so great! Boys sure are in the air lately it seems.

Congrats, congrats, congrats!

I think keeping the name a secret is a good thing especially for reason #1, but also it makes it so special when you introduce him to the world when he's born.

When HE is born...that is just so stinking exciting!

Uhm, about the nicknames...I thinks you should stick with Grubelet....

Awwww....little skelator is so cute already!!!!!

Oh, okay, I have to admit that "skelator" isn't really very fitting for the sweet miracle in your womb.

And I thought Jefe was Spanish for Jeff?

How about amigo? You can call him Migs. (pronounced "meegs.")

This is coming from someone who called her fetus panda. But we started with Wayne (think Wonder Years). Then we were like "what if it's a girl?" So panda. Whatever.

That's the beauty of being parents...you can call the shots. Nothing better for a marriage than parenthood. ...right?!

I like grubelet, and anyways, it sounds more masculine than feminine to me. I called Cami the little lintel forever, and she's still known by some of my friends as that. I think grubelet has kinda stuck.
Congrats!

I knew it! (BIG smile.)

We always had multiple girl names we agreed on but never boys names...and of course we had two boys. Their names were the only ones we could agree on. Don't worry about nicknames. If you stop trying so hard to find one it will involuntarily come out one day. Trust me. DR

LOL, before we knew that Rose was a girl, we used to refer to her as "The Punisher," due to her creepy ultrasound face. In the most loving way possible way, of course. Totally appropriate.

Congrats on the boy!!! How fun...we will both be having boys around the same time!

Yay!!! I didn't see you had a new post and then saw your comment on crafty's blog so I had a sneaking suspicion that you knew something that would have you wanting a froggy hooded sweatshirt! Congrats on adding another boy to the mix and continuing to out number the girls! ;)
Please please please do not stop sharing the "drama" as you and Jim decide on a name....I won't even put any of his suggestions in writing for fear of giving them legitimacy!

I'm telling you, Karen, start practicing up on your "rock, paper, scissors." you gotta be able to read what he's gonna throw so you can beat him!!!

I am thrilled about my cute little nephew! And grublet is quite adorable. We just went with "the baby", so look at how original you guys are, coming up with a cute nick name and all. See, great parents all ready!

LOVE the exchange between you and Jim... so classic...

You are going to LOVE having a baby boy! We are so excited for you... aren't ultrasounds amazing?

We have a name for baby girl, but only a handful of people know because too many people have too many opinions. Good Luck on finding a name, it took a several weeks after we found out we were having a girl even agree on anything.
