Usually this is where I give you a run-down of exciting events that filled our weekend. But not this time. This weekend was all about Roxy. Our cute rescue dog went from this:
to this:
We got her shaved. It was a hard decision - is shaving a dog even natural? But it's crazy hot here in El Paso. And with the massive amount of hair coming off of her hourly and my great dislike for cleaning, something had to change. And it wasn't going to be me. So off to PetSmart we went. Many (many) hours later she came back a little leaner. And a little embarrassed. I don't know if dogs really get embarrassed, but I think Roxy was acting a kinda shy when she got home.
She looks very funny to me and often I laugh at her. I don't think she even notices anymore. She's just happy to be cool.

While it sounds slightly inhumane to shave a dog, I'm sure it's for the best that Roxy be less hairy while basking under the Texas sun.
That's about all I got to say regarding Roxy.
However, I've a small bone to pick (pun intended) with Karen aka Stella...
I noticed that you made some modifications to your sidebar. I love the "If I'm Karen Then Who's Stella" explaination...I've always been curious about that.
Now as for that bone...
I'm a tad hurt that I'm not even listed as one of the strangers you stalk. I mean, I really thought we were past the "stranger" thing even if we haven't met IRL, but apparently I don't even make it to "stranger."
I'm pretty sure not even an ice cream sandwich is going to ease my injured feelings...
Oh my...
unless you are super quick at trying to make a hormonally whacked out pregnant girl feel good I might have to retract my comment.
It appears the thought to look for "Happy" never crossed my mind.
I'm leaving now...with my tail between my legs.
i gasped when i saw the photo! poor girl (yet cool and happy at the same time...) We were talking about Samson and Roxy the other day and how they wished they lived closer to each other!
OK, when I told Scott about your shaving Roxy he commented that you guys are truly great pet owners b/c you care more for the comfort of your dog than her appearance. Now, using her appearance for blogging fodder, might disqualify you from pet owners of the year though. :-)
While she does look rather funny, I can honestly say that she looks better than I imagined after our phone conversation the other day. She isn't quite as funny as I had feared.
Oh, I forgot to ask, would you do it again next year, do ya think?
Does that really help the shedding? let me know; i might get mine done. plus, i think shaved dogs are so cute!
I use to get Simba shaved like this and she was so soft. They get use to it!
When we lived in TX, I knew so many people that shaved their dogs. Its actually very smart, we just moved out of our house and with all the dog fur that was behind the dressers and hard to sweep spots, I could have made another dog! How long does it take for her fur to grow out?
BTW, thanks for sharing about stella!
My inlaws shave their little dog for the summer and I can't help, it cracks me up. In comparison Roxy doesn't look that funny. I wonder if perhaps she is feeling shy because she knows how good she looks!
Having a dog with short hair like you now have on Roxy I would say that she looks great. I can't shave anything off Heather but I wish thats all it would take to get her to lose weight!
