sewing and more sewing

A few Tuesdays ago I hosted my first Crafternoon. What is a Crafternoon, you ask? Well, it's a delightful little phrase coined by my friend Jen. And it's just what it sounds like. An afternoon of friends crafting the day away.

This time it was quilt-centric with 4 lovely ladies, and 4 different sewing machines. Lots of cutting tools and fabric, too.

So I would like to introduce you to my friends Sarah, Christie, and new-quilter Lindsey. You can always tell a new quilter because they say things like "Ugh!", "I hate quilting!", and "This is dumb." And every time Lindsey did, we told her a quilt-fairy died. Luckily Sarah was there to save us all from too many mistakes.

So, what are we working on, you ask? This is the pattern: And this is the fabric:
Now, I'll be honest. This isn't my favorite quilt for two reasons. One, I'm not really into the quilting styles of stars and pinwheels and all the things that make quilting traditional looking. Secondly, in an effort to modernize it, I found some newer Moda fabric I really liked. But somehow it isn't coming together they way I'd hoped. It's a little too busy and a little too pinwheelish. But, I have had fun making it and have enjoyed learning a new technique.

In a few hours the four of us rendezvous again for a Craftermorning to finish up our projects. Hopefully I'll have pictures next week!

Wow! You are like the quilting super star this week. I wonder if it could be some second trimester nesting urges kicking in?
Wish I had had the quilting bug when I was preggo... thank goodness I had you for a SIL though to provide my babies with blankets since we all know when you have something that needs to be sewn you take it to Gma or Aunt Karen, don't even bother asking Momma!!

I love the quilt from the post below for you SIL. LOVE IT. Did I mention I'm having a baby????

:)

Hee, hee, hee...

Seriously, though, I don't know what makes a quilt "quiltish" but I do like everything I've seen here more than I like the ones I've seen at Craft Shows and Fairs with the Pinwheel look.

You have a talent Miss Stella! And some serious nesting issues as well, I think!

How's the Texas heat treating you? Still wearing jeans? Just curious.

I absolutely love the fact that you quilt. I think its so cool. In truth I would love to quilt and really wish I could. I know though that I would need friends like you have found who would enjoy doing it because part of the fun I believe, correct me if I am wrong, is the fellowship. And then you have something to show for it too at the end of the day. Just a little jealous in NY not being anywhere near you and your quilting fun!

Oh yeah and just so you know the quilt you made more than six years ago for Derek blues with one of those fabrics that has an old fashioned little kids playing, love the quilt, still graces a wall in my home to this day. Derek's nursery was quilts of all kids all over his walls, from the one you made to the airplanes (2 of them) to the nursery rhymes one. I love quilts. Now today it is hanging on Nathan's wall. One wall has the fram you sent me for Nathan's birth (which I am stealing the idea for my brother and his wife) and on the other wall is your quilt. Love you My quilting sister!
