the one where jim doesn't go for a run

So in addition to my lovely ring, Jim's decided to also buy me a calendar for our anniversary. And to hire another race-scheduler.

Because one of the reasons we chose to come to San Diego for our anniversary weekend was because there was a Rock n' Roll Marathon. And we thought it'd be cool to do that together. But then I got pregnant. So now it was just Jim running it.

And a few weeks ago as we were counting down towards this trip, Jim decided that since he hasn't been training very consistantly for this marathon, and it's hard to eek something like that out (unlike a half marathon, in say, El Paso) maybe he should downgrade to the half marathon option instead.

No problem. It wasn't his goal, but we figured the 13.1 mile tour of the beaches of San Diego would be just as nice as the 26.2 mile version. That is, until I got online and realized there was no half marathon option. It was all or nothing. I got to give Jim that fun news earlier this week.

Well, what are you going to do? It is what it is.

Until it isn't, anyways. As it turns out, we're here the wrong weekend. The Rock n' Roll Marathon isn't until the 31st. Um, oops. For months we've been planning everything exactly 7 days early.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Or maybe I just feel like an idiot and won't live this down for a while.

Either way, instead of the intended pictures of Jim triumphantly crossing the 26.2 mile finish line, I've got nothing for you. Just the knowledge that next weekend tons of people will have those pictures to share and we'll be back in El Paso, probably sleeping in.

Anyone have a good calendar system? Jim would like to know.

Tomorrow: pictures from things we actually did get to do this weekend.

This is now my fav stella post... topped the Alamo, which I didn't think was possible. Love it, love it!!!

Blame it on pregnancy brain. Even if it has nothing to do with pregnancy brain, that's your story, stick to it!!! :-)

As to calendars, I highly recommend google calendar... we love it...but you know my track record with library books...

Hey Karen,
Dan and Jim should commiserate (sp?), I've done stuff like that more times than I would like to admit.
I have found a great calendar, however. At first Dan just rolled his eyes, but now he actually writes stuff on it himself. I bought it from this website, flylady. It is big, has big lined squares for each day and comes with cute stickers. It is 18 month and starts in August, just around the corner! I write everythin on it, my dates, Dan's dates, his work schedule, family stuff, and appointments for the kiddies too. They don't have the new ones on their website yet, but I think they will soon.

Oh, good old pregnancy brain...Crystal's right! Wait till mommy brain kicks in! Right now, I'm working with both so I pretty much can't keep anything straight.

I bought a new planner for my purse back in April? and it doesn't start till July so I don't know where I'm supposed to be when....

I am going to visit that flylady sight, though...thanks for the tip, Angela!

Yes...Get a calendar. Any kind and put it in a central place in the house. Keep ALL dates on it. Jim's, yours, Grubelet's.
Mine is in my kitchen by the phone. And if I get a call from Dan or the doctor confirming an appointment it's right there and I jot it down. I walk by it a million times a day. It would be great if Dan would actually write all his stuff on there but, um, well, I do the best I can. Good luck with that!

You guys are so fabulous. You know how to live life, you really do. I once participated in the San Diego marathon and frankly I wish I had gone the week before, too. Because then I wouldn't have had the experience of soul-searching at mile 21 and chanting "just freaking finish" for the next 5ish miles. Nightmare. Night. Mare.

Anyway, honestly, what a great story, I just love it. Grubelet's parents rock. And Grubelet's parents have an INCREDIBLE wedding picture on Stella's blog...honestly, I just keep looking at it, it's gorgeous.

I guess that's all I had to say...but I thought I had something with far more depth. Guess not. Oh well. Happy (belated) anniversary and the Grubelet countdown is ON! Jake is really pulling for a shared birthdate with Grubelet (well, maybe that's a little too early come to think of it...)...they could always celebrate their birthdays together when they go back early for soccer or OB or something at GCC when they're older.

Hilarious! I agree with Crystal, blame it on pregnancy & once you have little grublet, you can blame it on the mommy brain. San Diego is a great place to celebrate 5 years. Plus, El Paso is a great place to sleep in this weekend!
